Mariscos Jicaral: Strengthening Artisanal Fishing in the Gulf of Nicoya

Mariscos Jicaral is a family-owned seafood company based in Jicaral, Lepanto, Puntarenas, in the Gulf of Nicoya. Its work is grounded in a philosophy of artisanal and sustainable fishing, closely aligned with Randy Siles’ Agro-Marine vision and his commitment to responsible sourcing, local communities, and regenerative gastronomy.

Before partnering with Randy, Mariscos Jicaral primarily sold seafood to small local businesses within its community. Through its alliance with Randy, the company gained access to new hotel supply opportunities, significantly expanding its market reach.

Impact

Today, Mariscos Jicaral reports a 100% increase in revenue, with 80% of its income now coming from the hotel business generated through Randy’s sourcing relationships, compared with 20% from its previous local clients.

This partnership has created direct economic and social impact in the Gulf of Nicoya. The growth of Mariscos Jicaral has allowed the company to hire more artisanal fishers, generate additional employment, and improve the economic well-being of more families in the community.

“Since we began working with Randy, our business has grown by 100%. This partnership has allowed us to hire more artisanal fishers, creating jobs and improving the economic well-being of more families in our community.”
