What Makes Nicoya Peninsula a Blue Zone?

With the help of the National Geographic Society, Dan Buettner, author of The Blue Zones Solution started researching destinations around the world known for having high concentrations of individuals over 100 years old, but also clusters of people who had grown old without health problems such as heart disease, obesity, cancer or diabetes.

During his research, Buettner identified the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica as one of the the world’s five original Blue Zones, holding the world’s record with the lowest rate of middle-age mortality and the second highest concentration of male centenarians.
So, what’s the key to longevity? A plant-forward diet, fewer calories, light dinners, sunshine, outdoor activities, life purpose, spirituality, a focus on family and social connections. Learn more about the Nicoya Peninsula Blue Zone >>
